We are continuing to monitor our Waiting on a Waiver Campaign and work with investigative journalists at The Austin American Statesman for a story set to be published in early fall 2022.
In addition to the upcoming Austin American Statesman publication, The Arc of Texas received grant funding from The Arc US for a written and video storytelling project that will gather the lived experiences of people with disabilities and families on challenges and barriers to accessing and using Medicaid and expand on the stories received from individuals that participated in our Waiting on a
Waiver campaign. The Arc of Texas will kickoff our storytelling campaign at the Texas Advocates conference August 25-26, where we plan to interview self-advocates who are, or have been, on the interest list for an HCBS waiver.
In an effort to provide information and referral to help our members receive the information and assistance they need to be able to advocate now or later, The Arc of Texas has introduced a Frequently Asked Questions section to our website. These FAQ provide general information and resources on topics The Arc of Texas team receives the most inquiries about, with our first installment being on Home and Community Based Services.
It is important to keep in mind that all people and situations are unique, and disability services are rarely simple or straightforward, but we encourage you to visit our website to find the answers for your HCBS questions.
