Two bills supporting better access to the services and supports Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) need have overcome many hurdles of the legislative
process. Unfortunately, time is running out to get them across the finish line!
What We Need
House Bills 4571and 3720 are pending in the Senate Health & Human Services Committee. Contact the members of this committee and request they get a hearing—before it’s too late!
- HB 4571 would create a new Statewide Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Coordinating Council that provides input and reports on the IDD Strategic Plan. The plan address gaps across the IDD system to support high-quality, cost-effective services to Texans with IDD, in the most integrated setting appropriate to the individual.
- HB 3720, combined with ongoing funding of the waitlist, can lead to more timely access to community-based services for Texans with IDD. Specifically, HB 3720 would allow more Texans to access critical services through the Texas Home Living waiver (TxHmL).
