Call Today: Ask Your Representative to Vote for House Bill 2081 Tomorrow

What's Happening

We need your voice today! House Bill 2081–the Building Better Futures Bill–is scheduled for a vote in the Texas House of Representatives tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30. Please call your Texas House member today and ask them to vote in favor of this important legislation.

HB 2081 would create a grant program within the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, allowing colleges and universities to apply for funding to establish postsecondary education programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) on their campuses. These programs would provide students with the opportunity to gain job training, life skills, and preparation for more independent adult lives. Students who participate in these programs are more likely to be employed after graduation, making this an essential opportunity for success.

Why It Matters

Currently, Texas has only four postsecondary programs with Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) accreditation that are federally recognized and designed specifically for students with intellectual disabilities who want to continue their education, gain job training, and build life skills. HB 2081 would incentivize more colleges and universities to develop similar programs across the state—helping meet the growing demand from students with IDD who are eager for these opportunities.
