Millions of people with disabilities rely on Medicaid for health care and support they need to live in their communities. If Medicaid cuts happen, access to these vital services could be lost. In case you missed the Jan. 30 webinar from The Arc U.S., watch the recording nowto learn about the growing concern of
potential cuts to Medicaid, including what you can do to help protect it. Get tools, resources, and strategies to advocate effectively for this vital program.
Let's keep our loved ones safe! COVID-19 immunity decreases over time, so it's important to get vaccinated every year (just like the flu shot). The updated vaccine provides strong protection against severe illness and hospitalization, which is especially important for the disability community. Encourage your networks to get vaccinated with this ready-to-share social media content, and set an example by getting your shot today (available at most pharmacies and health clinics). Tip: If you got your last covid vaccine prior to September 2024, you are not protected from current
variants.
This quick-action grant supports projects that make immediate, measurable improvements to the
livability of communities for people of all ages. The program funds a range of projects, including those that focus on creating more walkable, accessible, and inclusive communities, improving health and safety, and enhancing social connections among residents. Open to local governments, nonprofits, and other community-focused entities, it's a great opportunity to implement community-driven solutions.
We had a blast delivering Valentine's cards to legislative offices at the Texas Capitol for Have a Heart for The Arc Day last Friday! Thanks to all who participated across the state by emailing or hand-delivering our card to your elected officials! We encouraged members of the Texas Legislature to invest in the direct care workforce, many of whom make only $10.60 per hour despite the
crucial supports they provide for people with IDD, which help them to live in their communities of choice rather than in institutions.
It's not too late to Have a Heart for The Arc of Texas! Make a
donation or purchase a shirt to help us continue our advocacy on this and other issues impacting Texans with IDD. As
disability rights are under increasing attack, we cannot do this work without your financial support. Any amount that is meaningful to you is helpful. Thank you.
Whether you're a seasoned advocate or just starting your advocacy journey, join us at this year’s Disability Policy Seminar, hosted by The Arc U.S., to keep
up the fight for progress on critical disability rights issues!
Hood College is conducting a research study among caregivers of people with IDD (parents or siblings) who have started or have considered starting a business to provide meaningful employment for their loved ones. The study requires a questionnaire, a 60-minute interview or focus group, and a short follow-up call. To get started, email Angie Auldridge.
