The Senate
Health and Human Services Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, November 13 (9:00 a.m.) to review emergency preparedness protocols for
vulnerable populations. They will examine emergency protocols for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) living in group homes, intentional communities, and integrated community settings, and assess how plans can be improved to better protect these populations during severe weather or emergencies.
Senate Interim Charge – Protecting Vulnerable Texans in Emergencies: Examine commercial residential settings for the elderly and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including assisted living
facilities, boarding homes, group homes, and independent living communities. Identify emergency preparedness and response protocols required during severe weather for these populations. Make recommendations for the establishment and enforcement of emergency protocols to ensure vulnerable populations are protected.
