Some of you have already had a chance to meet and work with Sabrina in her tenure with The Arc of Texas as Deputy Director of Public Policy & Advocacy, and most recently as Interim Director of Public Policy & Advocacy.
Jennifer Martinez, Chief Executive Officer for The Arc of Texas shared, “Sabrina hit the ground running when she joined our staff in 2023, immediately taking the lead on our education policy pillar and focusing on the importance of supporting our grassroots advocates. She understands the nuances of disability policy and its impacts on people’s quality of life. We’re so glad to have her at the helm of our policy
work.”
Her personal experience as a sibling of someone with IDD fuels her passion for disability rights and informs her approach. Prior to joining The Arc of Texas, Sabrina worked as a public policy analyst at The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities where she monitored disability issues in Texas and conducted activities to inform, influence and advance public policy. She also previously served as a public
policy fellow at the Disability Justice Initiative of the Center for American Progress, and at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions in Washington, D.C. where she worked on public policy issues at the intersection of disability and education.
“I am thrilled to step into the role of Director of Public Policy & Advocacy and continue advancing the work I am so passionate about. I am eager
to help drive our advocacy efforts to advance disability rights and justice for all Texans with IDD,” says Sabrina.
We’re working for systems change in four key areas, which we call our policy pillars: quality community services and supports, inclusive education, competitive integrated employment, and access to civil rights and justice.
