Back-to-School Resources for Kids with Disabilities
A new school year brings excitement, challenges and questions for families of kids with disabilities. Prepare and stay informed with these education-related resources:
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is accepting applications for the Student Success Acceleration Program (SSAP) 2.0 through Aug. 23 at 5:00 p.m. CST. The last day for application inquiries is Aug. 16. A great opportunity to create post-secondary programs for students with IDD, Texas public institutions or systems of higher education are eligible. This funding covers Oct.
1, 2024, to Aug. 31, 2026, and supports students’ persistence and completion of credentials of value leading to successful career and labor market outcomes in Texas.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is conducting a Needs Assessment Survey to gather input from older adults, caregivers, service providers and stakeholders. Your feedback is essential in helping create a State Plan on Aging. Questions? Contact HHSCCommunityServicesCommunications@hhs.texas.gov.
The Arc of Texas Public Policy & Advocacy Team is continuing their Tour Across Texas through September to provide an update on disability rights issues and share advocacy tips to help you prepare for the 89th Texas Legislative Session! RSVP to attend an event near you! Coming up: The Arc of the Capitol Area (9/10), The Arc of Wichita County (9/20), The Arc of DFW Area (9/21), The Arc of McLennan County (9/24), and The Arc of El Paso (9/28). (Chapters can contact publicpolicy@thearcoftexas.org to schedule a visit.)
No one with a disability should have to live in poverty to meet eligibility requirements for critical government benefits. The Arc of Texas Master Pooled Trust fosters independence, aids quality of life, and safeguards the financial future of Texans with a disability. To learn more and enroll, check out our quick explainer videos (available in English and Spanish).
Apply today to join the team! Our Master Pooled Trust Coordinators manage sub-accounts within the Master Pooled Trust, a pooled supplemental needs trust for people with disabilities. The Trust Coordinator will primarily interact with trust beneficiaries and their representatives.
Our friends at Texas Advocates are hiring two positions: a Development/Fundraising Specialist (fundraising strategy) and an Engagement Specialist (admin/operations).
