Join The Arc of Texas on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2024, for our annual statewide advocacy event. Have a Heart for The Arc is a chance to highlight issues facing Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Chapters of The Arc of Texas, people with IDD, and their families are encouraged to join
the fun by delivering valentines to their Texas House and Senate representatives and candidates (in local offices) to remind them to “Have a Heart for The Arc” and protect the human rights of Texans with IDD!
This seminar, an annual federal legislative conference co-sponsored by leading disability advocate organizations, brings together passionate advocates, including people with disabilities, experts, and professionals in the field, to learn about key issues and promote unity and movement-building to amplify concerns of people with IDD before Congress.
"He Isn't Worth Helping," a blog post by The Arc of the U.S. that gives voice to so many of the people we serve, shares gut-wrenching stories of health care discrimination against people with IDD. From denying treatment to discounting pain, people are being refused life-saving and routine care at disproportionately high rates. As The Arc advocates for
reform, these lived experiences spotlight the urgent need to combat stigma and ensure equitable health care access.
The Navigate Life Texas (NLT) website, a project supported by Texas Health and Human Services, was created to inform and empower parents of children with disabilities or special health care needs. Health care, education, insurance, transition to adulthood and how to connect with other parents are among the many topics found on NLT. Here, parents share
their perspectives on challenges and rewards they have faced revealing their valuable first-hand experience.
Help Inform Congress: Participate in a Survey Assessing Barriers to Child Care
The Government Accountability Office, a nonpartisan agency that conducts research to inform the U.S. Congress is conducting a survey about barriers families face accessing child care as well as any efforts your child care provider makes to create an inclusive environment. The information you share will be compiled with responses from other parents and
provided to Congress and the public. If you have a child with a disability, please complete this survey. If you are a parent with a disability,
please complete this questionnaire.
