Texas House Votes to Remove School Vouchers Program from House Bill 1
We are happy to report that an amendment removing the school voucher provisions (“educational savings accounts”) from House Bill 1 was approved. Thank you to all who sent comments to the Texas House of Representatives expressing opposition to school vouchers! These efforts were heard and are reflected in this win.
The school voucher program would have allowed parents to use tax dollars to send their children to private school, diverting crucial resources from public schools and negatively impacting the education of students with disabilities. Private schools, lacking accountability and specialized programs, could have denied admission or
failed to provide adequate support, hindering the academic and social growth of already marginalized students.
Please thank the lawmakers who voted for the amendment offered by Representative John
Raney.
