Message: As your constituent, a parent, and a voter, I urge you to stand strong with public schools by rejecting vouchers and education savings accounts. As a parent of a child who has received special education, I can tell you firsthand how funding for special education has not kept pace with costs. It sickens me that funding reforms for special education are tied to a voucher. I want you to know that I do not support my state representative making ANY deals to pass a voucher. Although it hurts children with disabilities to wait for special education funding reforms until the next regular legislative session in 2025, the harm of a voucher on students would be much worse. Not only will schools have less funding to provide special education services as students leave the public school system, private schools will be able to discriminate against students with disabilities. Regardless of proposed funding increases to public education that are tied to a voucher, I am concerned with the long-term uncertainty of funding in our state and the cost to taxpayers of a voucher program that will likely only balloon, as it has in other states. Please support public schools by rejecting all vouchers!
