Mark Your Calendar: Have a Heart for The Arc Day (Feb. 14, 2024)
The Arc of Texas is gearing up for our annual Have a Heart for The Arc Day, taking place on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2024! Chapters across Texas are encouraged to deliver Valentine’s cards to their local state representatives to thank those who support policies positively impacting Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and to
educate legislators in need of more information. Stay tuned for details and helpful tips! (If there are groups in your region who can make homemade Valentine’s Day cards, this is a great way to involve folks in our advocacy efforts!)
Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) is launching a free training series to help people in the policy and advocacy sphere develop their skills. It consists of self-paced modules, live sessions and technical assistance, and class networking. Pre-register today!
The Health and Human Services Coalition will provide education on how to complete the IL 2023-41 Employment First Discovery Tool related to Senate Bill 50 of the 87th Legislature, Regular Session, 2021. As of Nov. 14, 2023, service coordinators and case managers in the CLASS, DBMD, HCS, TxHmL waiver programs and STAR+PLUS Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) must use the tool to explore an individual’s desire to work. Email John
Huffine with questions.
For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), the barrier to accessing technology can be disproportionately high. Amazon and The Arc of the U.S. have created a program to expand access to technology and encourage greater independence for people with IDD.
