The Arc of Texas hosted
"Meet The Arc" day at the Texas Capitol on April 12th. Advocates from The Arc of the DFW Area, The Arc of Fort Bend County, The Arc of Greater Beaumont, The Arc of the Gulf Coast, The Arc of Harris County, and The Arc of San Antonio came and met with legislative staff and members.
The Arc of Texas' MPT
staff are creating a series of helpful videos educating people on the issues surrounding the Master Pooled Trust. The first video introduces trusts, supplemental needs trusts (SNTs), types of SNTs, and the Master Pooled Trust (MPT) in general.
Are you interested in
presenting at The Arc's national convention in New Orleans November 6-8? They are looking for speakers who will challenge attendees to think beyond community inclusion to belonging, motivate attendees to be more effective advocates across the lifespan, and share emerging best practices in services and supports for people with IDD and their families. The deadline to submit a session for consideration is Friday, May 19.
Disability Rights Texas
has released a Survey on Disaster Resilience of Texans with Disabilities. The results of the survey will inform Disability Rights Texas about current levels of readiness and local community needs. With this information, Disability Rights Texas will have the ability to give guidance and resources for programs and services to improve access during disasters. They can also improve community awareness about the availability of accessible resources and supports.
The Texas Association of
People Supporting Employment First (APSE) announced that they will host their 1st annual conference in Galveston October 2-4, 2023. They are currently looking for presenters, vendors, and sponsors.
May is mental health
awareness month and The Hogg Foundation wants to hear from you! They are asking for videos up to 45-seconds from Texas residents describing what mental health means to you. The first 25 complete submissions will receive a $20 Amazon gift card as a thank you.
