During the 2022 year, the
Whole Person Project collaborated with self-advocates to share their stories in a short video docu-series. With these videos, we hope to gain access to solutions and strategically advocate for systemic policy change as these stories will ultimately make their way to elected officials during the next legislative session. We began the series with James Meadours, an IDD Advocate, The Arc of Texas Board member, and member of the San Antonio League of Self Advocates
(SALSA), discussing his IDD journey and how it intersected with state-level Mental Health and Home and Community-based Services.
Are you a current or
emerging leader who wants to improve the quality of life of Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)? Do you want to support positive systems change for people with IDD, their families, and communities across the state? Looking to become a steward of the disability rights movement while building your network of connections? Then the Partners in Disability Leadership (PDL) program is for you! PDL is currently accepting applications for the 2023 class. Don't
wait, early bird registration ends December 23.
When you invest in The Arc
of Texas, you're helping ensure Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities are part of their schools, workplace, and community. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at Providence First Trust Company, your end-of-year donation will go far! Match their $5K gift so we can continue our mission promoting, protecting, and advocating for the rights and self-determination of Texans intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 88th Texas Legislature starts January 10,
2023, and we are eager to get started. Join us in this fight!
The Arc of Texas Wants to Hear From You
How is Medicaid
working for those in need? The Arc of Texas is collecting stories to learn how Medicaid is working (or not!) for people with disabilities, so we can work together to educate and advocate for changes. If you, or anyone you know, has a story to tell concerning challenges and barriers to accessing and using Medicaid please contact Spencer Miller-Payne.
